People with pain in the head, neck, shoulders, arms, or back. Those with stiffness and soreness, "crooks" in your neck, or don't sleep well, have stressful jobs or lives, suffer from anxiety, or just need a quiet, nurturing place to decompress and have some alone time without the kids yelling for you, the phone ringing, or having to do something for someone else for a while. People who need a place to just breathe and collect your thoughts while someone focuses completely on YOU and your goals for a change.
*The lower body is not excluded from the massage unless requested. I just specialize in upper body issues.
Chronic and acute pain are bad enough to have to deal with, but it can also cause or worsen the symptoms of stress and anxiety. Having to live and work day in and day out with these symptoms, and add to it the lack of restful sleep it causes, and it can all wreak havoc on your quality of life. Having a stressful job, having to sit at a computer for hours on end, having a busy family life, being constantly on the go, leaves little time if any for self-care.
Self care and balance are so important, but sometimes we just can't seem to make enough time to do it or struggle to find that balance. The symptoms of stress, anxiety, fatigue, and pain can easily become just part of daily life. And we can start to depend on things like opioids, muscle relaxers, antidepressants, OTC pain relievers, and anti-anxiety medications to just get through the day. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with needing or taking these medications if taken as directed, and under the supervision of your doctor, these medications can have potentially harmful side effects such as ulcers, liver damage, drowsiness, physical dependency, decreased libido, and even withdrawal if stopped too abruptly. This is why medications should be used sparingly whenever possible. Massage is a great tool to help reduce the need, maybe even completely resolve the issue causing the need for the medication without the risk of harmful side effects when it’s a part of your regular self care routine, along with lifestyle changes, and your dr‘s guidance. Not everyone is able or ready to make the lifestyle changes necessary to support the healthiest way of life. Like removing certain stressors from your life, changing eating habits, becoming less sedentary etc. Massage is great at helping to keep symptoms from worsening by manually increasing circulation, promoting relaxation, stretching can be done for you, decreasing stress, alleviating stiffness, soreness, tension, aches, and pains so you can maintain, if not improve your current level of mobility, functioning, and activity.
Sitting at your desk staring at a computer, or looking down at your phone or laptop for long periods can cause neck and shoulder pain and stiffness (Tech Neck). It can leave you with a "stuck" feeling between your shoulders, and left unchecked can cause headaches. Repetitive movements like typing all day can cause wrist pain and stiffness, numbness and tingling in the arms and hands, and even Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in extreme cases. Not getting up to stretch regularly after sitting for long periods can cause low back pain and stiffness. Usually the remedy for these is an over the counter pain reliever. Or if it's a chronic issue prescription medication, and then back to work or life you go. Pain relievers only last a few hours, and you still have plenty to do in the day. Some have families to tend to. Children to feed, help with homework, bathe, and put to bed. Throw in some time to be social, appointments, and/or preparing for the next day, then probably the same nightly routine for yourself as well.
So, you either tough it out or take another pain reliever or a muscle relaxer. But now the pain and soreness are keeping you from getting comfortable enough to sleep. So, there's a night of tossing and turning, and you've got an early and busy day ahead of you tomorrow. Lying in bed thinking of this can cause anxiety, which further impacts your sleep. You finally sleep, only to wake up still feeling tired, and probably still in pain. This can lead to the need for caffeine, and there’s probably some irritability. You may be feeling like you have to drag yourself through the day, likely not in the best of moods.
All of this is stressful to your body. The body needs proper sleep to heal, function properly, and rejuvenate itself. How can you be fully functional, alert, present, or even fully enjoy your days when you're sleep-deprived, struggling to ignore, or are completely focused on your own discomfort? This is a vicious and stressful cycle for so many. The good news is, it doesn't have to be! Massage can improve or alleviate so many of these issues. But, you have to make the time to take care of YOU. Make your appointment today so we can discuss your issues, and come up with a plan to get you back to being able to enjoy your life.
